BAMA Farallones Group Cruise
Saturday 9/29/18 8:30 am
Have you ever wondered about what the Farallones look like up close, but didn’t want to go by yourself? Well, join BAMA for a laid-back cruise in the company of other boats.
Here’s your chance to cruise to the Farallones and back in a convoy in late September, when conditions are less challenging. The strong winds and swells of summer have calmed down and the weather is warmer. And, as a bonus, we might see whales along the way!
For the Farallones Cruise, we will gather together just east of Alcatraz Island by 8:30 am and proceed out through the Golden Gate as a group. We will sail past Point Bonita, the “SF” approach buoy (aka the “Lightship” buoy), and then around Southeast Farallon Island and back to the bay again. We will sail in a convoy, with all boats staying between a designated “lead boat” and a designated “tail boat”. Everybody will be within radio range, to ensure there will be help available to address any issue that might emerge along the way.
This is not a race, so if the winds are light, we will motor part of the distance to make sure that we get out there and back in a reasonable amount of time. There are some minimum equipment requirements, and all boats need to bring at least 8 hours of fuel, just in case it turns out to be a very light wind day.
Please see the Notice of Event and the Sailing Instructions for details. Both documents are posted on Jibeset, and that’s also where you register for the event: The documents include the minimum equipment requirements and safety procedures which everyone must follow.
The event is FREE for BAMA members, and $30 for non-members (and that $30 includes a BAMA membership!).
Open to all multihull sailing vessels over 20 feet length at waterline (LWL) with an enclosed cabin, and with a crew of at least two people, one of whom must be at least 18 years old.
