Covid-19 “Shelter-in-Place” Order Forces Race Cancellation

Due to the COVID-19 Corona virus-related shelter-in-place order that was issued on Monday, March 16, 2020, for San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Alameda, Contra Costa and Marin counties, we have been forced to cancel the 2020 Doublehanded Farallones Race.

We apologize to all who were looking forward to the race, but we hope that we can find an alternative race date in the fall. We are seeking input on some possible race dates in August, September and October. To give us an indication of what dates work best for you, please enter your preferences at the following online poll: https://www.doodle.com/poll/dh8rsq49hq65axte

We were really hoping that we would be able to run the race as scheduled, and we were working hard to find alternate solutions to the COVID-19 virus threat. Even though there is an exception for “outdoor activities”, the gathering for the race committee itself would not be a permitted activity, the race deck will be closed, some competitors may have difficulty getting their boats launched at marinas or boat yards, and running the race during this period would definitely not be in the spirit of the shelter-in-place order.

Refunds

We are currently working to process full refunds for all paid registrations, and we are no longer taking new registrations. Please be patient with us as we work through the refund process. We have been told that Jibeset is not set up to easily issue refunds to lots of registrants. These refunds have to be processed manually, and it will take some time.

For any questions, please send email to dhf41@sfbama.org, or call us at +1 (650) 394-6343. Stay healthy, everyone!

Thanks,
The BAMA Race Committee
